The Imperative for a Comprehensive Cancer Centre: A Cornerstone of Preemptology
The Institute of Preemptology is founded on a single, powerful idea: to prevent disease before it begins. A central and indispensable component of the flagship Institute of Preemptology Complex will be a world-class Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
This Centre will not only address the critical lack of infrastructure for catastrophic diseases in developing nations but will serve as the natural focal point for clinical prevention and a powerful platform for broader Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) control. Here is why a dedicated focus on cancer is essential to transforming global health.
Cancer: A Leading and Growing Global Health Crisis
Non-Communicable Diseases, especially cancer, account for over 70% of all deaths worldwide, with nearly 1 in 5 people expected to develop cancer in their lifetime.

The Global Cancer Inequity in Health
The burden of cancer disproportionately affects vulnerable populations, exposing deep inequities in global health infrastructure.
- Disproportionate Impact: 70% of cancer deaths occur in developing countries, primarily due to a lack of facilities for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Resource Imbalance: Only 5% of global cancer resources are spent in the developing world.
- Coverage Gaps: Only 39% of participating WHO countries cover basic cancer management in core health services.
Cancer: The Devastating Human and Economic Toll
Cancer’s impact transcends statistics; it is a deeply personal and societal catastrophe. It can affect any organ and any person, regardless of age, sex, or social status. As the saying goes, ‘A person does not have cancer; a family does.’ The emotional, physical, and psychological suffering is immense.
Economically, cancer is the world’s most expensive illness:
- Global Economic Toll: estimated at $1.16 trillion in 2010, a figure that continues to rise.
- Cripples Families: It drains families of their life savings, pushes them deeper into poverty.
- Burdens Nations: It places an unsustainable burden on corporate and national budgets.
By focusing on prevention and early detection, we can mitigate this devastating toll on both lives and economies.
A Solvable Problem: The Power of Prevention and Early Intervention
Despite the grim statistics, there is tremendous hope. The World Health Organization (WHO) provides a clear roadmap for action, showing that a significant portion of the cancer burden is preventable and treatable.
- One-third of all cancers can be prevented.
- Another one-third can be effectively cured with early diagnosis and proper treatment.
- For the remaining third, palliative care can dramatically improve the quality of life.
Furthermore, some cancers, like cervical cancer, can be eliminated as a public health problem through the scaled-up screening and vaccination strategies that our Centre will champion. This aligns perfectly with the core tenet of Preemptology: to act early and decisively.
Our Resolve: It Is Time to ACT!
The evidence is clear: cancer demands a full-scale, integrated, and relentless response. In 2017, the World Health Assembly urged all governments to accelerate action against cancer to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The Institute of Preemptology is answering that call.
We must ACT! (Attack Cancer Together!) because this fight requires a global coalition of visionaries, partners, and donors.
We will ACT! (Attack Cancer Today!) because for millions of people, tomorrow is too late.
We must ACT! (Attack Cancer Totally!!!) because only a comprehensive, full-scale war—from prevention and screening to diagnosis, treatment, and palliative care—can defeat this disease.
Our Comprehensive Cancer Centre is not just a building; it is a strategic weapon in this war. It is an investment in a future where everyone has the chance to live a long, healthy life, free from the shadow of preventable disease.
Building on a Foundation of Proven Impact
Our vision for the Institute of Preemptology is not a new beginning, but a powerful escalation of a war we have been waging for years. This new chapter is built upon the successful foundation laid by our founders through the mass medical mission, a registered charity that initiated Nigeria’s National Cancer Prevention Programme (NCPP).
Since 2007, the NCPP has been at the forefront of community-based mass cancer screening in Nigeria, reaching millions with life-saving awareness and preventive care. This groundbreaking work has yielded remarkable results.
This success was driven by innovative mobile health units, including the first-of-its-kind Mobile Cancer Centre (the PinkCruise), fully equipped for advanced screening and treatment. This fleet, which also includes mobile eye (PinkVISSION) and dental (PinkDentist) units, has proven the effectiveness of taking healthcare directly to the people.
We can win the BIG WAR Against Cancer. The Comprehensive Cancer Centre represents the next logical step: a permanent, state-of-the-art hub to anchor and amplify the impact of these mobile units, scaling our proven model to a national and global level.
