of Innovation
The Institute of Preemptology will be the natural evolution of over two decades of proven, large-scale, community-based success led by Dr. Abia Nzelu (FWACS) and Dr. Kin Egwuchim (National Coordinator, NCPP).
mass medical mission (m3) as Proof-of-Concept
The Institute of Preemptology (IoP) is the institutional evolution of a two-decade, proven movement. In 2004, our passionate and resilient leaders launched the mass medical mission (m3) — a nonprofit movement that brought lifesaving care to underserved Nigerians. Through nationwide community outreaches and massive media campaigns, m3 reached millions with free health education, screenings, and early interventions for cancer and other chronic diseases, demonstrating that proactive care saves lives and serving as the living laboratory for Preemptology.
A major milestone of m3 is the deployment of its fleet of Mobile Health Units in 2017. This includes four U.S.A.-manufactured Mobile Cancer Centre (PinkCruise)—fully equipped with cutting-edge technology for mammography, sonography, colonoscopy, colposcopy, cryotherapy, vaccination, minor surgeries, and laboratory services. Along with the Mobile Eye Centre (PinkVISSION) and the Mobile Dental Centre (PinkDentist), these mobile facilities brought quality, life-saving healthcare directly to communities that had never known it before—dismantling the geographic and financial barriers that fuel health inequity.
The Institute of Preemptology (IoP) builds on this proven model, revolutionising the grassroots approach into a scalable institution dedicated to training Fellows in Preemptology—Preemptologists—who will lead proactive health initiatives worldwide. The ultimate goal is to train 8900 Preemptologists (one per million people) by 2030 to make Universal Health Coverage a reality, saving 60 million lives and helping to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem by 2030 (WHO goal).
Our Visionary Founders

Dr. Abia Nzelu
(Executive Secretary/CEO, mass medical mission)
Co-Founder, Institute of Preemptology

Dr. Kin Egwuchim
(National Coordinator, NCPP)
Co-Founder, Institute of Preemptology
Dr. Abia Nzelu and Dr. Kin Egwuchim, bring unparalleled insight gained through decades of frontline experience across the healthcare spectrum—from Local Council Primary Health Centres to tertiary facilities spanning three continents: Africa, the Americas, and Asia.
Their shared experience revealed a universal truth: the absence of a dedicated discipline focused on preemption as the cause of the world’s reactive healthcare system—which must change!
In response, they didn’t just advocate for better prevention—they initiated a new specialty—Preemptology as the key to revolutionising the existing fragmented, and reactive health systems.
As passionate advocates for Universal Health Coverage (UHC), they engaged successive Nigerian Presidents to galvanise transformative healthcare reform.
Through the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP-Nigeria), Dr Nzelu authored Giving in Nigeria: An Environmental Scan (Ford Foundation–funded) and mobilised over $10 million in private-sector support to deploy the U.S.-manufactured Mobile Health Units in Nigeria — a landmark in concerted philanthropy. Together, the co-founders established ↓↑GivingTide International and the ↓↑GivingTide Global Trust—managed by FBNQuest Trustees, a subsidiary of FBN Holdings Plc, creating a sustainable framework for global giving and healthcare innovation.
Their journey has culminated in the birth of the Institute of Preemptology, which aims to train the next generation of Preemptologists — specialists dedicated to predicting, and preempting disease worldwide. The goal is to train 10,000 preemptologist (one for every one million people) by 2030 to fast-track the attainment of Universal Health Coverage and the SDGs.
Donations to the Institute of Preemptology shall be domiciled in the ↓↑GivingTide Global Trust, which is administered by FBNQuest Trustees Ltd. This Corporate Trustee shall issue periodic financial reports in respect of the funds, in accordance with applicable fiduciary standards.
A Legacy of Proven Impact: The m3 Archives
Advocacy
Systemic change demands bold leadership. Guided by this conviction, our co-founders mobilised national leaders and secured unprecedented high-level government support: H.E., the 14th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN) was inaugurated as Grand Patron of CECP-Nigeria and ↓↑GivingTide, with H.E., the Vice President of the FRN and the Lagos State Governor serving as National and State Patrons respectively. Their visible commitment inspired record-breaking private-sector engagement — proof that when leadership aligns with purpose, society responds.
Case Study: The Ogoniland Cleanup and the Power of Environmental Preemption
Advocacy is not just about policy—it’s about impact. One of the most powerful examples of this is the environmental intervention in Ogoniland.
In June 2016, the Federal Government of Nigeria launched the long-awaited cleanup of Ogoniland, a region devastated by decades of oil pollution. This milestone — flagged off by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in Bodo amid widespread doubt —was catalyzed by a compelling advocacy speech delivered by Dr. Abia Nzelu on March 1, 2016, at the #GivingTuesday Centurion Luncheon hosted by the Vice President at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, in support of the Mobile Health System.
Dr. Nzelu spotlighted the severe contamination of Ogoniland’s drinking water with benzene—a carcinogen linked to leukemia, a leading cause of cancer deaths in children. She urged the government to implement the 2011 UNEP recommendations, which had languished for five years despite international pressure.
“Many, including himself, had assumed that the implementation of the report would no longer be actualised.” — Achim Steiner, UNEP Executive Director, at the launch ceremony
Within just three months of this high-level and data-driven engagement, the cleanup was initiated— breathing new life into a promise long deferred. Today, the legacy of this advocacy continues with the establishment of a University of Environmental Technology (FUET), Ogoni, Rivers State, in February 2025, fostering long-term sustainability and innovation in ecological restoration.
This achievement exemplifies the power of strategic advocacy to drive systemic change—across sectors, across generations.
These efforts provide a blueprint for IoP’s global mission: to scale Preemptology and achieve the UN’s Universal Health Coverage goals by 2030. They form the cornerstone upon which IoP invites the global philanthropic community to build—transforming a proven national success into a global movement for preemptive healthcare.

Health Outreaches
Long before “universal access” became a development goal, our co-founders were already taking healthcare to people — wherever they were. From rural villages to urban slums, the m3 model demonstrated how mobile innovation and community trust can overcome systemic barriers to care.
Today, that same philosophy drives the Institute of Preemptology: transforming practical outreach into an academic and operational discipline capable of revolutionising health systems worldwide and accelerating Universal Health Coverage and the SDGs.
